sasuke curse mode cosplay comic con portugal

Sasuke curse cosplay tutorial

I'm going to leave here the way I built this cosplay if anyone every wants to do something like this.

Suit:

The suit is another way to say everything but the wings and the sword.
So, for this part I did nothing but using things that I already had:
  • I used some old long socks to make the arms cover;
  • The rope was a very old rope my grandfather had. I had to paint it purple;
  • The shirt was literally a white shirt;
  • The light blue skirt was a folded sheet;
  • For the shoes, I used old slippers. I had to cut half of the upper part and the again, I used long socks for the rest of the shoes and the socks themselves.

Wings:

This is the main part, it was actually very cheap to craft these compared to the prices I see cosplayers spending on big creations.

This was the basis to do an articulated finger.. I used PVC tubes and elastics. It's a very simple mechanism.
With tons of elastics and some PVC tubes, the hand skeleton was finished.

Now it comes the harder part, to give volume to the hand. I found a very cheap and environment-friendly way to do it.
I spent a weekend as a spectator in local running races to gather small empty water bottles. The plan was to re-use then in order to give my skeleton the needed volume.
This was the final result:

You can also see there the base structure that would be on my back. I used foam to make it more soft.

At last, the hardest part, the "skin" of the hands. I tried many different approaches. The first one went wrong because the final result was not looking very smooth. On this attempt I used curtain fabric, mainly because my solution had to be with something very light and that could be easily modulated.

Before adding the curtain fabric I involved the hands with some old colorless wrapping paper. You can also notice that there is a white thin rope coming out of each finger. This was the way to found to move the fingers. I really wanted to make the hands articulated, but because the structure was not very resistant (because it had to be very light), I had to "pull" the fingers with the least resistance possible to the articulation. This was not yet the final result but because it was not looking very good I decided to try a different thing.

This was the second approach. I used a thicc paper to get a hand shape. After I used foam to create the final form.

Sword:

This was a simple approach, I used a very light and cheap wood, pine wood to do the sword. It was probably not the best way to do it, but I didn't have much more time to think in another way.
Sasuke's sword is called kusanagi and its actually not very hard to do it with wood, because you can do the sword itself and the "sword box" (sorry I dont know the name of this) at the same time.

I just had to paint it afterwards and it was ready to go.

Final result and contest participation:

During the event I didn't use the wings. Mainly because they were very big and I wanted to walk freely without being inconvenient for the rest of the people.
I only used the wings outside the contest after I the contest because it was already late and there was not many people around.
I regret a little that I did not use the wings more during the day tho..

PS: I know that the hands have some sort of skin between the fingers, but it was better not to do that, because then it would create way too much air resistence

Here are some pics of the event!
